I don't see how this budget encourages green business
My business aims to be green. I want to reduce its carbon footprint because I think it's an important thing to do and, frankly, I'm sometimes a bit scared about what the future holds for my children.
Politicians are now at last waking up to the fact that there are votes in saying you want to tackle climate change.
But despite what the Daily Mail might say I have my doubts as to whether making people pay 5p for carrier bags is really going to save the planet.
If you missed it, here is HM Treasury's own take on the environmental bit of the budget.
As far as I can see it's mostly about penalising the worst polluters - but already green groups are saying the Chancellor isn't using a big enough stick. Never mind the sticks - what about the carrots?
Admittedly using less energy (switching things off, turning the heating down etc) can save money anyway - but I would have liked to see some tax breaks for small companies who use sustainable energy even if it costs more. Or how about some real financial incentive for us to install solar panels on the Actuality Media roof?
