A top ten, from a man who knows his films:
My name is Michael and I love films.
I live and work in Birmingham and make my living, managing a cinema. I have a passion for words, books and narrative: give me a film that can tell a good story and I am happy. I am inspired by people and imagination and really have no time for fools no matter who they think they are.
To give you an idea of who I am, here is a list of 10 of my favourite films.
In no particular order:
- The Godfather (parts 1&2)
- Bladerunner
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Moulin Rouge
- Ferris Buellers Day Off
- The Exorcist
- Casablanca
- Star Wars
- Schlinders List

I shouldn't do this, probably, as I'm another blogger, but a film top ten cannot be resisted. Mine changes constantly, but here are the elements that came to mind just now ....
Life of Brian
Top Hat
Duel
High Noon (and the recent 3.10 to Yuma was surprisingly good)
The Lives of Others
M Hulot’s Holiday
All About Eve
O Brother Where Art Thou? (double bill with Sullivan’s Travels)
Fargo
Time of the Wolf (my only gesture to filmbuffery - Ive been a movie critic in my time!)
I can't resist it either. The emphasis in on 'favourite' rather than 'significant works of art' (sorry Eisenstein).
1. Oh Mr Porter
2. The 39 Steps (first version)
3. Sons of the Desert
4. Great Expectations
5. A Matter of Life and Death
6. Singing in the Rain
7. Days of Heaven
8. The Sacrifice
9. The Purple Rose of Cairo
10. Miller's Crossing
I make no apologies for the amount of early Brit films or for the lack of films from the last 20 years. It's not that I don't like any recent films; just that they take ages to make it to my top ten list. They really have to burrow their way into my mind over many, many years.

Sid,
As a Post blogger I'd be disappointed if you weren't commenting - both on the Post site and elsewhere!
Blog posts are only the start of the story, it's usually in the comments where the action is. :)
As for films - this is proabably not the best place to mention it , but I've never seen a Star Wars movie. I haven't seen The Sound of Music either, but I'm faintly proud of that...
I haven't seen any Star Wars films either, nor any Lord of the Rings. Here's ten from me (not in any order):
Sid, I too loved 'Life of Brian' - just so English in everything. But here are mine - in no particular order:
1. The Good, Bad and the Ugly - amazing film direction.
2. Rocky - first one - all the subsequent ones have been such a let down!
3. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - just action packed but well acted.
4. All the President's Men - excellent direction and lighting.
5. The Godfather - everyman's bible.
6. When Harry Met Sally - exploration of attitudes to sex, friendship between men and women, and love.
7. Sholay - an Indian curry western! It captures all that is/was good about Bollywood films. Nothing since has come anywhere near in comparison.
8. The Shining - so artistic.
9. Cinema Paradiso - an italian film, just so, delicate, so beautiful.
10. The Wicker Man - of 1970s with Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward, terrifyingly brilliant! Don't watch the recent one done by Hollywood - it's such a bore in comparison.
That's the Way it Is (Was)! Wow.. It is (was) brilliant! I must have seen it at least 10 times.. Long live Elvis!
All very intersting stuff here. But why is it that I haven't come across a single woman who likes the Godfather! It's a classic!
