Learning to live in China
Hello everybody!
Or, I should probably say, "da jia hao".
You see, my 2008 resolution is to make a bigger effort to learn Chinese. Don't be overly impressed by that though because, you see, I have already lived in China for one year and my "zhongwen" (chinese language), I would say, is considerably below average.
So here's a little more about me: I am 25 years old and work as an Oral English Teacher and freelance writer.
When I moved to Shanghai in 2007 with a twelve month contract, I never ever would have thought that I would be staying any longer than that, but here I am.
I have recently moved into my cosy little apartment in Beijing, where I will be living for the next year whilst working my ass off teaching some sexy pilots how to pronounce "th".
I have a chinese boyfriend who lives in Shanghai, which is beginning to feel like it may as well be the other side of the world. We're a two hour flight away from each other, but we're trying to make it work. *Sigh*
Partly why I decided to move to Beijing is because of the BEIJING OLYMPICS!
China has been buzzing for the past year on the countdown to this massive event, and I wanted to be right in the centre of it all!
As the world becomes increasingly interested in China and Chinese relations or "guanxi", please feel free to ask me any questions you have, I will be happy to share with you everything I have learnt.
Before moving to China I worked in media, dabbled with a bit of presenting, did loooooads of work as a 'runner' for various tv productions and squeezed in promo work whenever I could. I'm missing my family BIG time, since having a 3 week holiday back home, and already get the feeling that this year is going to be a very beneficial, though trying, period of my life.
Well, we will see!

Hi Nikki, how's it going? I am very interested in moving to China myself and was wondering if you had any advise on avoiding any early pitfalls?
