Don't fall flat, Gok!

By Selina Jervis on May 15, 08 04:09 PM in

I love Gok Wan, I really do. Who doesn't? Well maybe your boyfriend, I know I'd trade any guy in for a few hours of tough love and confidence boosting with Gok! But a recent show left me a bit miffed.

ep5_mirrormoment.jpgI've been waiting for a woman like Jenny to come on How To Look Good Naked for a long time; finally someone who doesn't hate themselves because they are 'too big'. On my own blog I've spoke about skinny bashing before, where thinner people can be an accepted target to poke fun at, but, to put it plainly, calling someone fat would be hurtful. It's OK to say Nicole Richie and Amy Winehouse are disgustingly thin but Beth Ditto is praised, yet is clinically obese like half the population. This is another debate though.

I was a bit huffy while watching this show last week because Jenny was continuously called 'flat-chested.' In reality, her chest isn't flat at all, infact is it even possible to have a totally flat bust? I was glad that someone could represent how, just because you are a size 8, it doesn't mean you feel desirable or love your body. You are not neccessarily more lucky or attractive than a size 16. Surely there was a nicer way to talk about Jenny's body as she has 'bangers', 'knockers' and 'bad boys' too, like every other woman on the show. It's known that Gok Wan loves them but if someone called me flat-chested, it would be insulting. He doesn't call half the women on the show fat. Sort it out Gok, I still love you!

I agree, I don't like 'flat chested' at all, it seems to be a term that takes away your femininity. I'm constantly amazed at the amount of names Gok has for breasts!

I think this is an area where there is a real lack of empathy between women. Those of us who couldn't possibly manage without wearing a bra find it hard to see how there could be a downside to being one of those women who can run for a bus in a little vest top without bruising their knees on the way. And vice versa.

You really hit the nail on the head!! I was thinking that the same thing too when I was watching the show!! I've heard plus sized models called 'real women' apparently thin people aren't?

If you exercise and eat healthly you are going to be thin!! Should everyone lie on the sofa all day and eat crisps and frys and get fat and lazy to be attractive?? I'm naturally thin and have a healthy lifestyle. Does that make me unattractive?? Am I supposed to get a boob job or something? Will there me ass imlants and hip implants and tummy implants in the future?? Why are they making thin people feel self concious and unattractive, and making unfit, lazy women who've been binging on ice cream and fast food since they were toddlers look good??

Sorry if its a bit long but I've been in a bad mood abOut it all day!!

Selina, I couldn't agree more. I'm a US size zero (not by choice) and I'd love to be bigger! I hate having to deal with people asking me if I'm anorexic and whether I wear kids clothes all the time! (No actually I buy my clothes from Canada). It seems if you are thin, the phrase "but I eat all the time" is viewed with complete disbelief.
It's about time Gok realised we in the skinny world get as much abuse as those who are bigger.

I used to love Gok and he used to make me feel better about myself. But I've heard really bad things about his last show and a number of women who have been on his shows, including some of his lovely plus size models have been hurt or upset by his comments.

I've found a alternative to the Gok-boost. I just downloaded the Remington Hunk from this site:

http://www.remingtonshine.com/tag/remington-hunk/

He sits on your desktop and tells you how lovely your hair is and works out and asks you to marry him. Nice! He is currently making me a cake. Who needs Gok!
