Christmas box

The BBC was always going to win the Christmas TV ratings 'war'. Again. In truth, it's not even a border skirmish. ITV can't get anyone to advertise over the holiday, so don't waste assets competing.
Of course we all enjoyed the terribly English whimsy of Wallace and Gromit, but I was a bit disappointed that both the Royle family and Gavin and Stacey contrived (and I use that verb advisedly) to go out with seasonal musical items - although it was heartening to see Tom Courteney attempting a few basic chords on ukulele.
Pity he didn't try it in Little Dorrit. That's the sort of thing we pay a licence fee for.
Good to have David Tennant on his own for once, but the Cybermen have never really been my favourite Who villains. Caught snatches of EastEnders and Corrie while waiting for other things and find it hard to understand how people in such large numbers are prepared to swallow such repetitive bilge.
It's not even bad enough to be funny (a remark I make after watching Jason Statham in Transporter late one night over the holiday - a hoot).
Disappointed by Harry Hill being allowed to insert such an obvious plug for his new DVD in TV Burp and quite gobsmacked by the way the BBC filled schedules with re-runs of Porridge, Eric and Ernie, Dad's Army etc. That's not the sort of thing we pay a licence fee for.
I suppose they daren't do a Last of the Summer Wine Christmas special as half the cast might die off between filming in October and screening in December.
Peter Sallis is now filming the 30th season of said warhorse, but at 87 he can't be going on for much longer. And what about the next Wallace and Gromit show? They'd better not leave it another 13 years or they'll have to find another voice for Wallace. Mr Statham perhaps? He could at least do all his own stunts.
