Day Two in the Mostly Jazz house(/park). If Day One was all about the jazz-funk and the blistering drummers, Day Two was all about the jazz-jazz and prodigious guitarists.

Day One in Mostly Jazz house. Or should that be park, which indeed it was. And gloriously so, as the sun shone upon the hobbit holes of Moseley's secret park pretty much all day and all the beards, yummies and long-haired children of Birmingham were out in full force.

I'm not quite sure how to do just one blog entry on an entire day of music, featuring 12 different bands, a couple of poets and a bit of World Cup football thrown in for good measure, without this being the longest blog entry in the universe. So, in the interests of brevity, this is Saturday by moments. Day One's best bits, if you like...

Tis the time for football quotings, tra la la la.
Anyway, so spoke Alan Hansen about Alex Ferguson's Manchester United side ahead of the 1995 - 96 season. United went on to win the league and cup double.
It's now one of the greatest footballing clichés of all time.
I'll be shooting a movie with a 'bunch of kids' from Birmingham School of Acting very soon indeed.
We have no money, the script is still being written and there are a million and one things that we need to find.
Right now I have a lot of reasons to be very, very scared but I don't feel that way.
This is one of the most exciting things I have ever done.

The best medicine

Sister%20Henry_Bar[1].JPGSister Henry and The Prescriptions. Some of them, anyway.

In theory, I've semi-retired from blogging. This theory has been somewhat thrown out of the window, however, by the irresistible prospect of the imminent Mostly Jazz Festival - this weekend in Moseley Park. It's jazz, it's funk, it's soul. It's in Moseley. It's a festival. It's Sun Ra Arkestra, it's Quantic, it's JTQ, it's Craig Charles DJing at the after-party. It's local, national and international jazzy, funky, gypsy, fusiony, souly, latiny (they're not even real words, but I don't care I'm that excited) talent. It's beers and beards and (Polar) bears. And it's right on my doorstep. How could I possibly not do a festival diary?
