Take more responsibility for your health!

By Emma Brady on Feb 26, 08 11:23 PM in Health

Binge drinking, obesity, postcode lotteries and dying with dignity, these are just a few health issues that simply refuse to go away.

As The Post's health correspondent I don't want to stick with the mainstream or blindingly obvious, as am also interested in the off-beat stories and innovative break-throughs that could affect us all.

The health of the NHS itself, its finances, the workforce and how it is set to change in the coming years - whether patients or staff like it or not.

If you have ever glimpsed my occasional column, which has an obvious obsession with public health and fitness issues, then you will know I have a straight-forward, no-nonsense approach to staying fit and well.

Perpetually perplexed at how people fail to take responsibility for their own health, blissfully ignorant of the damage they are inflicting on themselves, I'll pull some hard punches.

Anyone reading this can jump in to add their two-penneth whether you're a whistleblower, patient or parent - health affects us all, so make your voice heard.

Emma Brady joined The Birmingham Post in 2000, and since then has swapped blagging for blogging and tequila for trainers, as her hedonistic but unhealthy lifestyle gave way to a full-blown, beyond all help, running obsession.
After conquering a childhood fear of blood and gore, she has observed operations and put herself under the microscope in the name of journalism, ritual humiliation... and medical science.
She can often be spotted running around the Greater Harborne Area in various shades of lycra, but don't stop her - she won't buy one.
