At last, the search for happiness - concluded!
I worry about myself sometimes. I mean, as a regional columnist I really put my neck on the line.
Whilst others might ponder on modest subjects like the permanently appalling state of our hospitals, the ineffectual Council, or the surmountable quantity of litter in our streets that might even disgrace a third world country, I tend to be drawn to the big universal questioning.
It might sound a bit pretentious but don't get me wrong - I'm not knocking my colleagues who discuss these subjects regularly.
But I do feel there is a need to show that our readers are concerned about the bigger issues as well, issues that go beyond the confines of our conurbation.
In tomorrow's column, for instance, there I am trying to tackle one of the most central enquiries known to Man - a question that has grappled minds infinitely superior to my own - what is true happiness?
And my answer...Well, why don't you have a look in tomorrow's edition and find out.
But I'll tell you something - and it's a big claim - writers, philosophers, artists and prophets just might have got it wrong.
I think the real answer sits within the perimeters of your local service station...
