Fat cats and politicians or County Air Ambulance?

By Roshan Doug on Apr 15, 08 05:21 PM in Politics

I read that County Air Ambulance is going to extend its flying hours. Flight crews currently operate a 14-hour service but that will be extended to 16 hours from 1 May this year.

In addition, the Worcestershire-based aircraft will operate for 14 hours instead of its current 12.

And that's quite an achievement considering it costs £24 a minute to keep one of its red helicopters in the air.

But I'm a little astonished, flabbergasted, in fact, that this vital rescue service - would you believe it - is not funded by central or local government. Neither - bearing in mind what a vital role it plays in saving lives - is it funded by the NHS.

You would think it would be, wouldn't you?

But how wrong you'd be.

Nope.

In fact, as a voluntary organisation it relies almost exclusively on public's generosity and donations.

Can you believe it?

Now bearing in mind the colossal amount of money that is put aside for useless projects - and, honestly, there's quite a few of those - you would think we'd be able to prioritise the importance of this emergency/rescue service that actually saves people's lives.

But sadly, the government's constantly making excuses that we can't afford it.

I disagree.

If we could just kick out some spineless, snivelling, nepotistic politicians who are robbing the tax payer by their paying salaries to their families for work they don't even do or the innumerable other ways they claim hideous amounts of expenses for accommodations, lunches, dinners and travel (£24,000 on stamps!), we might be able to fund something as vital as our rescue services.

It'll certainly keep CAA ticking over nicely for a few years.

And whilst we're at it, why not kick out all those on the board of Northern Rock bank who agreed to pay the Chief Executive a hideous sum as a pay-off for the outstanding work he did. And they're keeping him as a paid financial expert until next January.

And who's the mug funding him? You got it - it's the poor hard-working sod, the British tax payer. Essentially we can afford to pay hypocritical, drivel-infested politicians and monumentally incomptent fat cats but, alas, not our rescue services.

It's disgusting!
