Lib Dem inaction will shame Birmingham

By Marc Reeves on Apr 2, 08 05:57 PM in

Birmingham has again been branded a hotbed of shabby political practices after a judge called a Lib Dem election candidate "dishonest" and accused a senior councillor of taking part in a "scurrilous" attempt to bend the truth. Read the full sorry tale here , and of course in The Birmingham Post on Thursday.
My paper will demand the resignation of Aston Lib Dem councillor Ayoub Khan, the cabinet member for local services, because - simply - we've had enough of this city's reputation being dragged through the mud.

Only three years ago another judge infamously said the electoral shennanigans in a previous case would have shamed a banana republic. Now I doubt we could even aspire to that title.
All of this comes a couple of weeks after another cabinet member of the city council was cleared by the standards board of improper conduct when he labelled asylum seekers 'scumbags', but another councillor was censured for allegedly trespassing on private property to investigate a constituent's concerns.
While those charged with upholding standards in civic life tie themselves up in knots, democracy in the suburbs is turning to dust, and election turnouts dwindle to shameful levels.
The Lib Dems have launched an inquiry into the antics of their members in this latest case, but the fact is that a thorough investigation has already taken place in the election court at a cost of half a million pounds of taxpayers' money.
This is nothing less than a crisis for those who lead all of Birmingham's mainstream parties. I sincerely hope we see evidence of them taking the challenge more seriously than they appear to have done thus far.
The Lib Dems should suspend councillor Khan pending their investigation - that is if he doesn't do the honourable thing and resign - and immediately ban Saeed Aehmed from ever representing them in the future.

It has all gone very quiet over at the Birmingham truth seeker' s blog. I don't know why.... because there's quite a bit of political news around in these parts for him to wave his sword of truth at. Of... Read More

One thing you have to remember is that The labour party were the ones who found guilty of gaining votes by fraud. So for what reason are you asking lib dems cllr Ayoub Khan for resigning.

i warned libdem leaders - hemming and tilsley- about the dirty duo khan and ahemed or ahmed or whatever his name is about 2 years ago. But the lib dem leaders did not listen to me because the duo fed them with lies about me and the libdems chucked me out of the party.
it's still time for libdems leaders to learn and the only decent thing they can do is to make sure that these two never practice politics again. In fact don't even let them come near public life otherwise, bewarned, there will be more problems. Khan is already lying to the electorate through his teeth about me to save his wretched career!

Aziz your just like a jumping ship from one party to another! And you wonder whether they should take your word as being credible!??!? mmmm

shaeen or shaheen? as you can't spell your own name you must be a lib dem supporter. related to aehmed or khan? i assure you i am much more credible then your lib dem lot. try again.knowing khan and aehmed they must be concocting these names as they don't have many supporters now, not in Aston anyway.

Shaeen is how i spell my name! I have lived in Aston for 15 years and ever since councillor Khan got elected i have never felt safer in Aston. His got my support as well as the majority of aston locals! You Aziz are best explained as the titanic. You smacked into the iceburg and sank along time ago and have been buried into the ocean waters forever. The damage has been done and cannot be put together again! ouch...

Lets just leave it to the electorate to decide shall we gentlemen and ladies... sorry Shaeen!!

It would have been a lot easier had Mr khan not been a spoilt brat and not stuck with his buddy Mr Aehmed who has destroyed politics in Aston and gone and moved into a new house in a new area. Charming and cleverly masterminded. I wonder who actually has been made to look the fool.!!

It would have better for Mr khan to have Mr Aziz in the tent peeing out rather then outside the tent peeing in.

Mr Khan relaises his mistake but his ego and pride are far too much to try and reconcile and solve the problem before the 1st May.

The electorate especially in Aston are a fickle bunch Ms Hussain you could have the support one minute and be kicked in the teeth the next.

I just hope that the reputation of a the decent foke in Aston is not damaged to the extent that we begin not trusting each other. Oh Mr Khan i do not yet include you in the decent column.
