ICC hall 'too small for party conferences'

I bumped into veteran Sky TV political commentator Adam Boulton at the Tory party conference at the ICC and asked him what he thought of birmingham as a conference venue.

I thought this from day one. Hall 1 which is used for the stage only seats 1,500, Hall 2 (Symphony Hall) seats 2,000. Perhaps they could just use the NIA, set out in Academy arrangement which seats 4,500. Thought for 2010.

Precisely Simon. The ICC/NIA is just so flexible. For the International Olympic Committee we had sessions in Hall 1, big press conferences in Hall 5 and the main announcement with all the bidding cities at the end was on a stage built in Hall 3. And then if any of that's too small, there's the NEC which had, for example, the huge USA media centre for G8.
