Inside Fort Dunlop, new HQ of the Post & Mail
Straight to the point: here's a video I shot inside the new offices of the Post & Mail (soon to be renamed BPM Media) the other day at Fort Dunlop.
This is where all departments - editorial, advertising, pre-press, accounts etc - will be housed by the end of November. The mood in our current home in Weaman Street in the city centre is pretty grim at the moment, given the re-organisation and editorial job losses we recently announced - so to be honest it was good to get out for a couple of hours for a preview of what the future will look like.
By the way, the video was shot on one of our much-lauded N95s. Please bear in mind that a: this is the first video I've shot, b: I've had no training in it whatsoever, and c: I'm a complete idiot.
That said, I think the footage gives a good impression of our new environment.
Note the funky graphics, glass panels, open spaces, and the central desk area, which is our multi-media control 'hub'. Sitting in two sweeping rows of workstations under a bank of monitors displaying print and web pages, this is where all aspects of the Post, Mail and Mercury will be controlled.
If you look carefully, you can see Post Executive Editor Mike Hughes almost banging his head on one of the screens.

The offices look fabulous, the building appears to as good from the inside as they do the out. I do strongly object to the name of the building as “Fort Dunlop however. As the local Councillor for the area for 15 odd years I know no self respecting person with local knowledge would call that site anything other than the “Base Stores. The “Fort was a good distance away from where it now claims to be. Urban Splash are conning us all with their metropolitan marketing concepts.

Multi-skilled editor. Picture Editor facing redundancy?
Sorry, Clifford, you can't out-smart, out-misery or outrage anyone on this one - everyone's facing redundancy ... but I suppose you'll go on for ever (or will it just seem that way?)
Sid, lighten up.
Glad you liked it Marc.
