Merry Christmas everybody! (Not gays or jews)
Merry Christmas everyone! Of course, speaking as a non-religious person myself; Christmas isn't just about Christianity any more. Christmas, in this country at least, is a time for people of all faiths and beliefs to come together.
For example look at this fellow here. He believes gays and jews should be hanged. You know hanged, like to death probably. From a big crane. And your tax money is paying for him to appear on television. Hurrah!

It's a tribute to today's society of tolerance and permissiveness, that being a raging anti-semite, gay-hater and leader of a fascist regime still doesn't mean you can't make it on television. Or at least on public television in the UK anyway.
What a pathetic move from a channel that survives - at least partly - on money from you and I. I suppose this is supposed to be a controversial move from Channel 4, an attempt to drum up a bit of 'discussion'.
This is what passes for political thought today, among the lefties of this world. Anyone, no matter how much they despise gays, jews, women, democracy, freedom or modernity is a friend, just so long as they satisfy one vital criterion - they hate America or the UK.
How warped do you have to be to think inviting this scumbag onto television is a good idea. How blinded by hatred of the West that you care less about basic human rights and decency than you care about making cheap political points? Who's next on Channel 4? Nick Griffin? Robert Mugabe? Kim-Jong Il? Sadly, any of these people doesn't seem too unlikely, as long as they trot out a few lines about 'imperialism' and the west.
But anyway, this is supposed to be a day of celebration. So hope all you straight white males out there are having a lovely day. The rest of you, well... Steer clear of Channel 4.

Thought it was going to be about the Pope!
Oooh! Yes, Pope B has been talking some toot recently. Give him this though. No matter what rubbish he talks, it's unlikely anyone's going to get strung up because of it. Very very sadly, you can't say the same about the Iranian government.
Well at least he doesn't hate blacks.
Tom, Whatever Channel Four's intention was, let's not be coy:
Extremist leaders of other countries should most certainly be given as public a platform as possible to show them up for the menace they are and how they rule their respective roosts. Let them shock us with insights into their minds and what the populations of those countries have to endure. Might even shake some of us into action rather than paying half informed lip service.
Knowledge is power, and most certainly better than fighting shadows and unknown quantities, don't you think?
U
Going to have to disagree with you on that one afraid, Ursula. IâÂÂm not saying we should ignore these people, but I donâÂÂt think what Channel 4 did gave any kind of insight.
AhmadinejadâÂÂs not likely to let us know the truth of whatâÂÂs happening in an unchallenged Christmas broadcast.
I didnâÂÂt watch it on Christmas Day, I didnâÂÂt want to put myself in a bad mood (more so). But from what IâÂÂve read it sounds like self-justifying paranoid rubbish. Jesus would fight âÂÂbullying, ill-tempered and expansionist regimesâÂÂ? Really? IâÂÂm no religious expert but IâÂÂm pretty sure thatâÂÂs the opposite of what Jesus was about. Turn the other cheek, render unto Caesar and all that stuff.
ThereâÂÂs the irony that Ahmadinejad was talking on Christmas about what Jesus would have wanted and done if he was around today. Well one thingâÂÂs for certain: if Jesus was around today, the authorities certainly wouldnâÂÂt let him into Iran - just try that if youâÂÂre a jew with an Israeli passport.
If it had been an interview, or a contribution as part of a documentary or something, then thatâÂÂs a different matter. But this was just seven minutes of self-promoting airtime. ItâÂÂs free advertising for a heinous pathetic regime. If this had been one of our politicians itâÂÂd be called party political broadcasting and thereâÂÂd be rules about giving the opposition the right to air their own views. Luckily for Ahmadinejad, there is no opposition in Iran... just like there are no gays in Iran.
Do you believe in censorship master Scotney? And is it not better to hear the claptrap of others so we can judge for ourselves? Also,is there not a danger that isolating people like Ahmadinejad from the international community could potentially create a bigger monster.
Good piece though...
Well I didn't get a Christmas special, and I don't feel very censored or isolated... This isn't really a censorship issue.
I'm not saying the Government should have banned it, just that C4 should have known better than to wheel on someone as awful as Ahmadinejad just to fill space and create a bit of controversy - which I think is the only reason they put it on there.
