One man at the forefront of business life in Birmingham and the wider Midland region is David Waller of accountant PricewaterhouseCoopers.
His role as regional chairman and senior partner at the firm's Birmingham office lends authority to his comments and analyses of economic and business issues.
PwC has the largest professional services practice in the Midlands with more than 2,000 staff spread across three offices in the West and East Midlands - 1,650 of them in Birmingham.
The Midlands practice offers an diverse range of services, taking in assurance and business advisory support, tax and legal services advice, help with corporate finance issues and funding, business turn around expertise and human resources solutions.
Prior to joining PwC, David held a number of senior managerial positions with Distillers, Kerrygold, and a global supermarket retailer. He worked abroad for several years in the Far East, Middle East, and USA before returning to the UK.
David is married to Edwina and has a grown up family who are all into equestrian sports. He has tried to bring a more business focus to spending on horses but has not yet succeeded in getting the family to understand that "P&L" is not all about "L".
He brings extensive commercial and business experience from his career in the regions' leading professional financial services business and also from his time in industry, and as a management consultant. David was appointed Midland chairman in 2002 because of his commercial background in sales and marketing as well as his time spent within the profession over the past 15 years.
External appointments include chairman of the Employer Skills Board, Council member of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Regional CBI Council member, Board member of Marketing Birmingham and the West Midlands Industrial Development Board.
He also leads PwC's involvement in CSR and community projects. He held the 2007 title of West Midlands Ambassador of the Year for Business in the Community from Prince Charles.
